Biography: Bangladeshi Movie Actor Bulbul Ahmed

Bulbul Ahmed is a legendary Bangladeshi movie actor. His passion for acting built from family. This actor proved himself in front and behind the camera. We found him as actor, producer and director. He showed his worth in all these categories successfully.

Personal Life:

Tabarruk Ahmed is the real name of Bulbul Ahmed. Bulbul was his nickname. He was born on 4th September 1941 in Aga Mossie Lane of Old Dhaka. His parents were Khalil Ahmed and Mosammat Moslema Begum. His father was a Deputy Secretary of Finance Department of East Pakistan Government. Mr.Khalil had a hobby on acting. Bulbul’s passion for acting built when he followed his father’s trial for stage shows.

He passed matric from Dhaka Collegiate School. Then he did admit into Dhaka College. Meanwhile, his mother died suddenly in 1957. During that time his elder brother was working in Sylhet so he took him to there and entered into Sylhet MC College. During his time in Sylhet MC College, he played a role in “Chirokumar Shova Drama”. Later he passed IA on 1959 from Dhaka College, passed BA on 1961 from Notre Dame College and received MA in History from Dhaka University.

Bulbul Ahmed had a relationship with Daisy Ahmed since childhood and later they married. This couple had three children. Their children are Wasif Ahmed Shubho, Tazrin Farhana Oindrila, and Tahsin Farzana Tilottoma. Bulbul was suffering from cardiac and diabetes issues in his late days. He died on July 15, 2010.

Career:

On 1958, Bulbul Ahmed started to work in stage shows. Movie actor and cousin of Bulbul, Nazmul Huda helped him to start his work in the stage. Also, he also participated in the drama of DAKSU and SM Hall during his time in University. After completing his MA, he started his career as an announcer in the program “Anurodher Ashor” of Radio. However, it was not enough for him to ensure the required money. So he joined in a bank job at United Bank (Now Janata Bank). He worked there for 10 years alongside his acting.

Bulbul Ahmed was involved in different stage shows randomly. His first proper acting life started through Abdullah Yousuf Imam on 1968 in a Television Drama. Since then he played important role in the “Arek Falgun, Borof Gola Nadi, Idiot, Sesh Bikeler Meye, Tomader Jonno, Tumi Robe Nirobe, Hoimonti, Eishob Dinrattri, and many other dramas. He came in focus when he played in “Borof Gola Nodi” drama. It was based on a novel of Zahir Raihan. He also worked in the drama of “Durdarshini” with his wife as a co-actor. It telecasted in the inaugural day of Bangladesh Television. Bulbul Ahmed worked in almost in around four hundred dramas in his lifetime.

Career in Movie

After the liberation war on 1973, Bulbul Ahmed introduced himself in the film “Yie kore biye”, directed by Yousuf Zahir. He faced some negative view from his wife Daisy regarding his work in the movie, however, his mother in law actually helped him to get over it. While he started to work in the movie he changed his name from Tabarruk to Bulbul. Since the first movie, he found the success and it continued. However, he claimed the top-notch position in the movie industry with his performance in the “Debdash” movie. Bulbul found success as a producer as well.

Apart from movie and drama, Bulbul also worked as presenter, model.
