Bobita is one of a most popular actress in Bangladeshi movie industry. Started her career in 1968, she made herself as the iconic character. She was one of a most dominated figure during the period of 70-80’s in Bangladeshi movie industry. Apart from her career, her family was also very much involved with the movie industry. Her other two sisters, Suchanda and Champa are also almost equally contributed in Bangladeshi film industry. She also entitled as a director. Bobita has been awarded numerous awards and honor as recognition of her contribution to the film industry.
Personal Life:

Bobita born in 1953 in Bagerhat of Bangladesh. Her real name is Farida Akhter Popy. Her parents are Nizamuddin Ataub and B.J. Ara. Bobita’s family had an educated family during that era. Her father was a doctor. Her mother studied at Lady Brabourne College in Calcutta and she was also a doctor. Babita has two sisters and three brothers. All of them are in a highly reputed position in their own way. Her elder sister Suchanda is one of an iconic actress in Bangladeshi movie industry, her elder brother is an electrical engineer. Iqbal Islam, another brother of Bobita is Pilot. Her younger sister Champa is another iconic movie star of Bangladesh. Her youngest brother, Ferdous Islam is currently living in the USA.
Zahir Raihan one of most well-known movie director was the husband of Suchanda and brother in law of Bobita. Riaz, Omar Sunny, and Moushumi, three icons of Bangla movie are also relative of her. Her husband was Iftekhar. Bobita’s husband died her son was 3 years old only. Her son’s name is Anik, who studied in Canada.

She studied in Jessore Daud Public School in early life. Later when they moved into Dhaka after her elder sister involved in acting. Here she studied at Gloria School. Despite the fact, she did not complete formal education, she was personally educated herself. She is also skilled in multiple languages including English.
Career:
Bobita came into the movie industry following the footstep of her elder sister “Suchanda”. Her first movie was “Sangshar”, directed by Zahir Raihan. She acted as the child of Razzaq and Suchanda. Also, she also acted on a TV drama, known as “Kolom”. She was familiar was “Subarna”. As she informed through The Independent newspaper in 2004 that Afzal Chowdhury was the person who recommended her “Bobita” name. She first worked as Bobita” in the movie “Jolte Shuruz ka Niche”, however the movie did not complete. So lately she has been introduced with the movie “Pitch Dhala Path” by Ehtesham as Bobita. This Bangladeshi movie icon got the lead role in the movie “Sesh Porjonto”. It released on 14th August 1969.

Zahir Raihan, her brother in law at the beginning guided her career. Despite of her presence in different movies, she found the limelight with the movie “Taka Ana Pai” by Zahir Raihan. However, slowly she brought her out from the Zahir Raihan’s circle and established herself as the greatest actress during that period. Bobita made herself popular in the international arena with movie “Ashani Shangket” (1973), directed by one of greatest “Satyajit Ray”. This movie literally changed her life and acclaimed all around.
Acting in Ashani Shangket movie was something special. Before the Nimai Gosh took around 200 still pictures of Bobita and then she was selected primarily. Then after a couple of tests she was finally nominated as the “Ananggo Bou”.

Badi theke Begum, Lathiyal, Sangshar Shimante, Surjograhan, Nayanmoni, Ki j Kori, Bandini, Ek Mutho Bhat, Ononto Prem, Nishan, and Teish Number Toilchitro are some notable movies of Bobita during the period of 1975 to 1985. She received “Best National Actress” award three times in a row in this time period.
Bobita’s career at 90’s:
Bobita completely moved out from her own style and involved in the commercial movie. Since her beginning of career, she was the icon to a young generation. She had her own style. However, at the start of 90’s, it was lost. She started to involve in side-characters rather than lead roles. Despite that fact, she gave us some memorable movies that time. Such as “Padma Meghna Jamuna (1991), Golapi Ekhon Dhakai (1994), Mohamilon (1995), Pokamakorer Ghor Boshoti (1996), Swapner Prithibi (1996), Dipu Number Two (1996), Jibon Sangshar (1996), Praner Cheye Priyo (1997), Hasna Raza(2002), Kokhono Megh Kokhono Brishti (2003), Char Sotiner Ghor (2005), Shobai to Bhalobasha Chai (2009), Obujh Bou (2010) and many more”. Also, she was the producer of “Pokamakorer Ghor Boshoti (1996) movie.
